Cognition: the perfect fit or not!

Perception, attention and memory are the cognitive building blocks which work together to help children learn. On my subway ride into hunter today I was reminded that although I have very good visual memory skills my visual perceptual skills are somewhat off. As I scurried into the 6th train carriage my eyes quickly scanned for a blue space where my bottom would fit. The carriage was crowded and no one else had taken it, that should have been an environmental cue for me NOT to sit but instead, since I am petite I ignored the cue and attempted to sit in the space where I really didn’t fit. Rather embarrassed instead of getting up I perched on the edge waiting for the voice to tell me I had reached Hunter College.
