Let’s Talk Autism

Help your autistic pre-school child communicate, connect, and thrive - without overwhelm.

A practical course that helps you understand your child's communication needs and confidently support their growth at home and at school, one step at a time.

You don't need to be an expert. You just need the right guidance.

If you're here, chances are you've asked yourself questions like:

  • Why isn’t my child communicating the way other kids do?

  • Am I doing enough — or the right things — to support them?

  • Why does every strategy seem to contradict the last one?

You care about your child deeply — but the advice can feel overwhelming, clinical, and confusing.

Let’s Talk Autism was created to change that.

This course gives you clear, compassionate, evidence-based tools you can actually use in everyday life — without pressure, judgment, or unrealistic expectations.

This course is all about providing practical neurodiversity affirming strategies to support your young autistic child in a compassionate and effective way.

What you get when you enroll in the course:

When you enroll in Let’s Talk Autism, you receive more than just recorded lessons.

You’ll also get real-time connection and support throughout the experience.

✔ Full-year access to all course modules
✔ Downloadable tools and resources
✔ Learn at your own pace
Three live community connection calls with Dr. Donia Fahim (dates below)
✔ A calm, respectful, parent and caregiver-centered learning environment

Here is how this course will work

This self-paced course begins April 19, 2026. I have divided it into five chapters because as you journey with your child, you will need different information and different resources.

Each of the five chapters includes:

  • a video you can watch in your own time
  • handouts and worksheets you can download

Even though you will have a full-year to access the course, I suggest you work through the content over 10 weeks and spend two weeks on each chapter, but we are all different learners with different brains and so I leave this to you.

And, you don’t have to do this alone.

During the course, you’ll be invited to three live community connection calls, facilitated by me, Dr. Donia Fahim, where you can:

  • Ask questions about the material

  • Get clarification on how to apply strategies at home and in the community

  • Learn from other’s experiences

  • Feel supported, understood, and less alone

Live Community Calls (on Zoom):
April 22 at 7:00pm BST
May 11 at 7:00pm BST
June 3 at 7:00pm BST

There are 5 chapters:

Chapter 1: Foundational Understanding

Learn how autistic children process communication differently – and why that matters.

I recommend you start with the first chapter, which is where I provide an overview of the autism spectrum condition, and share stories from families I have worked with to help you better understand your child and their needs.

You can then choose the chapter you want to listen to next, depending on what your main concern is.

I do recommend you go through all the chapters.

I will share insights from autistic adults and parents I have worked with who have guided and shaped so much of my work over the last three decades.

Chapter 2: Language & Communication Support

Practical tools to encourage meaningful communication without pressure.

In this chapter, I will break down the difference between speech and communication and explains how autistic children express themselves in meaningful, diverse ways.

I will cover verbal and nonverbal communication, AAC, echolalia, eye gaze, joint attention, and early signs of communication — all through a neurodiversity-affirming lens.

This chapter sets the foundation for practical strategies that support communication by meeting children where they are.

Chapter 3: Play & Cognitive Skills

Strategies to build engagement, joint attention, and emotional safety.

The third chapter is about play, and I will model how you can teach important
cognitive skills through fun play-based activities and learning themes.

You’ll learn how everyday play, routines, books, sensory activities, and games can support multiple developmental skills at once.

I’ll introduce key “learning to learn” skills — such as requesting, imitation, receptive language, categorisation, joint attention, and early cognitive foundations — and explain how they contribute to communication, independence, and school readiness.

Chapter 4: Real-Life Application

Support your child during meals, playtime, routines, and transitions.

The fourth chapter is about everyday routines and transitions, and how you can use visual strategies to help your child with these.

We’ll explore how routines, transitions, and visual supports can build independence, communication, and self-regulation for autistic preschoolers.

You’ll learn how to use visual schedules, checklists, timers, and everyday activities to support bath time, handwashing, toileting and dressing, nail cutting, and hair cutting.

I’ll also explain how to reduce stress around transitions, scaffold learning through visual and verbal cues, and adapt supports for different learning styles, including hyperlexic children.

Chapter 5: Understanding Behaviour and Self-Regulation

Respond to behaviour in ways that support learning, communication, and emotional safety.

The fifth and final chapter explores behaviour and self-regulation through a neurodiversity-affirming lens.

Through real-life examples, you’ll learn why behaviour is a form of communication, how sensory differences and environmental triggers impact behaviour, and how to support autistic preschoolers with compassion rather than punishment.

This chapter covers identifying triggers, teaching replacement skills, using positive directives, co-regulation during meltdowns, and practical strategies such as visual supports, priming, and functional behaviour assessment.
